EAA Chapter Garage Damage Update

April 7, 2024

By Bud Yerly

Here is an update on the March 15 damage to the Chapter Garage by Atlas Construction:

The garage front lintel and supports were irreparably damaged by a collision by an Ajax Paving Industries of Florida LLC  road oil spreading truck.  It was initially evaluated by engineers and the building is uninhabitable/unusable.  As of today, we as members of the EAA and CAP are denied access to the building due to safety and liability concerns.

On April 1st Chapter Officers and CAP had a teleconference with HCAA property management.

The lease will be modified to eliminate the garage area from the lease for the time being pending the final decision on the building and its demolition.  As of April 1st, no decision on replacing the garage has been made, however we can expect demolition as soon as approved and a demolition company is contracted.

In the near future a new lease amendment is under review and rewrite, and this may take 2 weeks.  EAA 175 has submitted all the information requested and is standing by.

May 25, 2024 Event will be held at Happy Hangar Café at Tampa North Airfield (X39).

The next meeting of EAA chapter 175 is on Saturday May 25th and just for this meeting will be at a new location: the Happy Hangar Café at Tampa North airfield (see links below in this email for more info).

Fly in or drive in for 9 am, and a fun morning of talking aviation and admiring all the aircraft on site.  Attendees can order their own breakfast from the café, which offers tasty and reasonably-priced fare.

For those interested in a little learning to go with their breakfast, we’ll be using the meeting room at the café to hold an FAA Safety session (with WINGS credit available) from 10 am.

This is a regular program run by the chapter, which uses scenarios and case studies as the basis for open discussion about aviation and safe and proficient piloting (the scenarios are chosen so that there's never just one possible answer).  It’s also a good excuse to swap flying stories with each other!

The May 25th session will focus on the all-important issue of engine trouble on takeoff and cover several details which have emerged over the years regarding the so-called “impossible turn” back to the runway.  Bring your piloting knowledge and experience to the session and let’s see how much we can learn from each other.

Invitation to this event is open to other EAA chapter members and also guest.

Will have more information on our home website page on this event.
